24 hours later...
Damn you Australia for being so far away, but we made it! Andrew perhaps feeling a little green from the last leg of the flight, but we'll come back to that later.
So, Kilimanjaro Airport; we are sweating buckets and not sure if it is due to 34 degree heat or the immigration officials, they are very scary!
After paying for our entry visas, USD50 each, passports stamped, we are collected by our driver. The road to Arusha is slow and hot, the speed limit a walking pace and the A/C fighting a losing battle against the heat outside. Chucky sitting next to me asked the driver to stop the car some 20 minutes into the trip. Remember I mentioned Andrew was feeling a little green? Well some regurgitating was required to reset his equilibrium. Picture a white dud in the middle of Africa, throwing up on the side of the road. We've heard the stories, don't stop at traffic lights, keep driving to avoid ambush, my mind is racing. Do I get out to help Andrew?, if I get out will the driver take off with our gear? What to do? All was well in the end and Andrew's colour was returning to normal.
We arrive at our hotel in Arusha, Four Points by Sheraton and a guard firstly does an under car explosives check. We passed that. If that doesn't get your attention, two further guards scan all our bags with an airport style scanner. Safe and indoors now!
We are hot exhausted and jet lagged. After a quick forty winks we enjoyed a buffet dinner on the veranda and our first local brew. We came here to safari, so how apt our first beer was a Safari!
